By Alan Jenkins, Professor ESSEC and ESSEC & MANNHEIM Executive MBA Academic Director
Let's imagine someone in their mid
thirties with a solid intellectual base (Bachelor and above), very
strong professional ambitions and already an international string to
their bow. This high potential individual is looking for a part-time
generalist Management programme that will launch them towards executive
competencies and responsibilities. Leadership is the goal, but not at
any price... Our individual wants to combine business excellence with
solid values and principles.
This is
where the ESSEC & MANNHEIM Executive MBA comes in. This programme
provides a rigorous and in-depth programme that forges leaders and
breeds excellence. Demanding resilience, determination and tenacity, it
provides an extraordinarily rich learning experience that, in turn,
further develops those qualities. If we add in the nurturing of
innovation and creativity (via a substantial Entrepreneurial project)
and of social responsibility, then the “virtuous circle” is almost
complete. Almost ... but not quite, because each Executive MBA class
brings its own specific blend of cultures, personalities, skills and
past experiences, generating a unique solidarity and collective
identity. International diversity and synergy go hand in hand.
Two
programme formats run in parallel. The weekend format (taught in French
and in English) takes 22 months through fortnightly sessions based in
Paris, but is interspersed with crucial residential periods for
international exposure: Brussels, Budapest, Mannheim, Singapore... Our
recently redesigned Modular format also has these residencies but is
now shorter, at 18 months, and is entirely in English. Participants
switch between Paris and Mannheim every 6 weeks and can thus cultivate
two sets of international networks and profit from two groups of
world-class professors. In this Modular programme the week-long modules
are designed to make office hours available and to integrate expanded
time for team work (in a Wednesday to Wednesday schedule). Our new
format is leaner, sharper and more sensitive to the needs of working
managers and their families.
Both our
formats build teams, use working teams for course work and are very
attentive to team processes. Dedicated coaches nurture team synergies
and help members anticipate the tensions and stresses that inevitably
merge during such a demanding experience. At the end of our programme
“team work” has become far more than rhetoric – it has become a natural
way of interacting, working and creating. Differences of function,
gender and culture have been blended into the advantages of diversity.
Responsibilities and obligations have become complementary, and
collective innovation made real.
The
ESSEC & MANNHEIM Executive MBA changes lives and forges leaders by
giving concrete and dynamic expression to the core ESSEC values:
humanism, innovation, responsibility, diversity and excellence.
