Forty one professionals and young managers from different European
countries and various professional backgrounds spent, at the beginning
of July, one week on the ESSEC Singapore campus in order to get a
better understanding of Singapore’s unique marketplace and the
influence of China’s ancient philosophy on its way to economic success.
The ESSEC & MANNHEIM Executive MBA participants from the Modular class of 2009 were able to gain a unique insight and learn first-hand the way business is conducted in this part of the world. Trying to understand the Asian versus the Occidental approach to business, the different goals, ambitions and ways to handle business relationships played an important role in the seminars and will be useful for the participants’ future business activities.

As part of the Executive MBA program each class creates and carries out its own class project. The participants are in charge of all aspects of the conference including agenda setting, selection of speakers, fundraising, communication and marketing. This forges collective cohesion and also fosters skill sharing and cretaivity.
This year the Asia Connect Executive Forum brought together the Essec Asian campus (in Singapore) business leaders, experts and government representatives to discuss strategies on how to deal with the rapidly changing global economy.
In the prestigious setting of the Raffles Hotel, Chloe Cho, Channel NewsAsia Presenter and Producer, moderated the exchange between speakers and participants on the topics of investment, marketing and research & development.The Ambassador of the European Union in Singapore, H.E. Holger Standertskjold, touched on the role of political decision makers and institutions in facilitating global trade and investment. Representatives of European small and medium sized companies shared their views on the challenges in investing and producing in the Asian market. And large corporations such as Alstom and BASF evaluated the risks and opportunities in discussing intellectual property and technology transfer.
Thanks to the sponsorship of JP Morgan and Heraeus the forum also provided a good opportunity to expand the participants’ network and build future contacts.

Worldwide and ESSEC Business School have launched a new program aiming to
provide professionals in the luxury retail and service industry with an
understanding of current branding, management and consumer trends.
The
MasterCard-ESSEC Luxury Brand Management Program comprises of 15
scholarships to a four-day intensive course run by ESSEC Business School
and selected modules will also be available to students in the region at
ESSEC's new Singapore campus and research centre. ESSEC is a French
institution which offers the only luxury brand management MBA
program.
"There is a real
demand for executive-level talent in the Asia/Pacific luxury retail and
services sectors. Affluent consumers represent a critical market segment
- they set industry benchmarks in terms of product and service standards.
We felt it was important to have a program that draws on our established
and proven curriculum while providing a uniquely Asian perspective,"

The course will cover
the key challenges and dynamics of the luxury industry, different models
of luxury brand development and unique challenges in managing services
for competitive advantage, and the Chinese luxury market will also be a
special focus of the program. One out of the four days will be spent
studying China's enormous growth potential and will incorporate an
analysis of its luxury consumer market, the geographic distribution of
its affluent consumers and the different regional characteristics.
